Capacity-building workshops on ecosystem conservation and restoration, titled “Healthy and Productive Ecosystems,” were held to support achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

In declaring this period as the United Nations Decade for Biodiversity, and in developing and adopting the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the 20 Aichi Biodiversity Targets, the global community has taken up the challenge to reduce the loss of natural habitats, restore degraded areas, and improve protected area networks by 2020. A number of activities to promote the achievements of the area-based targets are already underway, including the organisation of regional and sub-regional capacity building workshops.
